Welcome to my website!
I was born in 1989 in Warendorf into a "horse family.” I rode in front of the saddle with my two older brothers, Philipp and Christian, before I could walk. As I grew older, I learned to ride on our family pony "Orien." Later, new ponies were added. During this time, I had the opportunity to ride stallions for the Nations Cup rider "Kaiser" Johannsmann at the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports—a time that shaped me and during which I learned a lot about horses and how to handle them.
At the age of 15, I went to a boarding school in England for several months, completely without horses. It was an educational time that I wouldn’t want to miss. After my return, I was fortunate to take over a “mentor” from my brother Philipp—Fridolin. With him, I achieved my first successes in the dressage saddle and participated in the national level Youth Dressage Championship, among other competitions. During this time, my passion for dressage crystalized.
After "Fridolin," I received another horse from my brother Philipp—"Downing Street." With her, I achieved my first successes in the M class at the junior level. After my high school diploma, I pursued studies in Göttingen, completing them with a "Bachelor of Science in General Management." This was followed by further studies concluding with a "Master of Arts in Advanced Management." I wrote the accompanying Master's thesis at the "Westphalian Horse Stud Book" in Münster-Handorf.
During my studies, I gave riding lessons at my brother Philipp's facility "Hof Bettenrode." I decided to pursue further training as an equestrian focusing on "Classic Riding Training." I completed this with my brother Christian in Holstein, where he runs an international show jumping stable. I finished the training with the “Stensbeck Plaque.”
After the training, I returned to Münster to the Westphalian Breeding Association. Initially, I was responsible for the horse training part-time and also involved in marketing riding horses. After two years, I took over the marketing of dressage and show jumping horses for the auctions—a formative and educational time. During this period, I completed my master examination, graduating in 2019 as a "Master of Equestrian Science in Classic Riding Training."
After my time in Münster-Handorf, I moved to Havixbeck to work with the successful 5-star level show jumper Jens Baackmann. I was responsible for riding his 8-10 competition horses and managing the buying and selling of horses. The focus was mainly on show jumping horses, hunters, and equitation horses, which are particularly appealing to the American market. Concurrently, I continued training a riding horse and my own mare as dressage horses, regularly attending training sessions with Dr. Svenja Kämper-Meyer (an international dressage rider) and Morten Thomsen. My father Christoph Hess is always by my side with advice and support.
Additionally, I completed a training program to become a sports mental trainer because I am interested in this topic and believe it's an important aspect for riders—whether ambitious leisure riders or successful competition riders.
At the end of 2023, I decided to change my career path. Since the beginning of 2024, I have been working at the dressage stable of the internationally successful dressage rider Helen Langehanenberg. She has won medals at the OS, World, and European Championships. Here, I am co-responsible for the horse riding and facility management. I am now gaining initial experience at "Inter II" level. I am very grateful to Helen for her intensive support and the opportunity to benefit from her experience, equestrian knowledge, and skills.
